Germany | Braunschweig Projects 2027–2028 curatorial, visual and sound fellowships

HBK Braunschweig is now accepting applications from curators, visual artists and sound artists for their 12-month fellowships. There is a curatorial fellowship, 2 sound art fellowships and 5 visual arts fellowships.

Curatorial fellowship

The goals of the scholarship are:

• to enrich the curatorial practice at HBK Braunschweig by developing and realising a curatorial concept for the final exhibition of the Braunschweig Projects programme 2027/2028, and
• to develop a curatorial project that is ideally connected to a museum, a collection, a scientific or a cultural institution in Lower Saxony.

The curatorial fellow will take part in the jury meeting to select the artistic fellows of Braunschweig Projects and will work closely with the selected artists during the course of the programme. The project draft should consider research, preparation and implementation, the calculation, communication and possibly an educational or accompanying programme.

Visual and sound art fellowship

The programme is aimed at artists, who would like to work on a project in the immediate vicinity of HBK Braunschweig. With their project proposal, fellows should make a significant contribution towards the further development of forms of artistic practice. All fellows will be assigned a mentor, who will help with the integration into university life. Fellows will have the opportunity to present the current status of their artistic project within the university

The fellowship holder is expected to spend at least 8 months during the HBK lecture period on site in Braunschweig, as well as participate in the Welcome Weeks, which take place from 19 to 30 April 2027.

Eligibility

A requirement for a successful application is that the applicant has already gained initial curatorial experience (for the curatorial fellowship) and a successfully completed art degree and show proof of extensive artistic practice and exhibition participation (for the visual and sound fellowship).

Support

• Funding is provided in the form of a stipend totalling 1,600 EUR per month over a period of 12 months.
• A studio apartment in Braunschweig, designed for one person, will be made available rent-free for the duration of the fellowship.
• A contribution of 250 EUR per month towards incidental living costs must be paid by the fellows.
