The Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts (IDSVA) invites artists, curators, writers, and creative thinkers to apply for 2027 admission to its research-based, low-residency PhD program. As a nomadic institution without a physical campus, IDSVA brings students together through interactive online seminars paired with immersive residencies worldwide. You begin your doctoral trajectory in Summer 2027 with a foundational residency in Italy, traveling to Rome, Spannocchia Castle, Arezzo, and Siena. Qualified holders of a BA or BFA may apply. MFA or MA holders can transfer up to 5 credits, evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Enrolled international students may study from their home countries.
