Gate 27 General Admission – 2027
The International Creative Residency Program Gate 27 was established in 2019 to support the research and production processes of different practices and to provide a platform for interdisciplinary interaction. Treating art & creative productions as research methods, Gate 27 invites artists, curators, researchers, and professionals from different disciplines to establish a dialogue around ecology, sustainability, accessibility, and local creative networks. It encourages the formation of different collaborations through public programs and events it organizes, rooting itself in the intersections of arts, science, and industry.
Gate 27 provides its residents with a calm working environment and studio space where they can turn their ideas into production, as well as facilitate access to various resources and people to deepen their research. Participants become part of an extensive and ever-growing network of artists and researchers who are now an alumnus of the program.
Gate 27 hosts its residents at its premises in Istanbul and Ayvalık.

Duration of residency
Gate 27’s residency program duration varies according to its locations. Applicants can apply for a 4-12 week residency program for our Yeniköy premises. Those who want to join Gate 27’s residency program in Ayvalık can apply only for 4 weeks.
We decide the allocated time for the applicant’s project according to their needs after conducting interviews with the applicants, and we notify the applicants.
Please remember that national holidays may last long due to extending the before and after dates. Also, summertime in Istanbul is a low season for arts and culture. These factors may make it difficult to reach out to people for networking. Please choose your dates according to the needs of your project.

Accommodation

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance The Gate 27 residency program hosts artists, researchers, and professionals in the visual arts, curating, literature, music, architecture, and design. By bringing together our diverse scholars and fostering their creative perspectives, we aim to foster and sustain new collaborations. The opportunities offered by Gate 27 vary depending on location. Fees and support
Gate 27 does not charge any fees for application and accommodation. Additionally, Istanbul residents receive a weekly 600TL city public transportation pass and one free round-trip city transportation per day in Ayvalık. While basic food shopping is provided weekly in Istanbul, three free meals are provided daily in Ayvalık. Additionally, Gate 27 supports the promotion of residents and their projects by providing public and media relations plans, both in print and digital formats. Only basic food items, as determined by Gate 27, are provided for weekly food needs. Guests are responsible for all their own expenses, other than the financial and moral support mentioned above. Gate 27 does not provide any financial support for artwork production or project expenses. However, it does provide a connection between residents and relevant stakeholders to realize the relevant production. In this context, residents can use Sabancı University’s art workshops and scientific laboratories free of charge, subject to availability. Gate 27 does not support visa application fees, airline tickets, or similar international or intercity transportation costs. City airport transfer, taxi or chauffeured vehicle support.
Expectations towards the artist
Participants are expected to actively work on the projects they apply for, engage with local cultural and artistic actors and artists, and participate in a process documentation video at the end of their residency, prepared by Gate 27, to convey their residency process. Guests are also encouraged to contribute to the Gate 27 Collection by donating an artifact (such as a sketch, drawing, artwork, text, or report) that best describes/represents their experience at Gate 27.
