RE: NAME Archive → Update → Edit → Delete → Rewrite → Rename We are constantly naming and renaming ourselves. A name can change when we cross a border, enter another language, inherit a new history, or leave an old one behind. Migration can alter not only our geography, but also our names, identities, memories and relationships to the places we once called home. But what if identity itself is an archive? An archive is never neutral. It preserves certain things, erases others, and gives meaning through the way something is recorded, named and remembered. Family photographs, passports, documents, languages, maps, stories and inherited memories become fragments of identities that are continuously reconstructed. RE: NAME considers renaming as a form of transformation, and sometimes as a form of survival. To rename is to question what has already been defined. To edit is to reconsider. To delete is to create absence. To rewrite is to reclaim authorship. The exhibition brings together questions of migration, belonging, memory and generational inheritance with emerging forms of digital and posthuman identity: avatars, digital doubles, altered images, synthetic voices, algorithmic identities and bodies imagined beyond their biological limits. What once belonged to the archive now becomes data. What was once inherited can be edited. What was once fixed can be renamed. We invite artists to explore how identities are formed, inherited, displaced and reconstructed, and how technology might transform not only the way we represent ourselves, but the very idea of who we are. RE: NAME is a search for the self between what was given to us and what we can still change.
