SUMMER IN PATAGONIA Self-Directed Residency in Printmaking Practice

During summer in the southern hemiphere, Patagonia, it is time to take advantage of the long, bright days. Surrounded by forests, lakes and mountains with mild days and cool nights, summer is a privileged season for hiking in the mountains, bathing in the lake and spending time outdoors.

This type of residency offers time and space to carry out a printmaking project independently, applying all the techniques and resources available at the studio. It is an invitation to engage with practice and creative process.

It is a requirement for this modality to have proven experience in non-toxic printmaking.

Extra technical training, or creative guidance can be requested subject to a fee and availability. You can hire the services of a printing assistant if necessary.

Duration of residency

The duration of the residency is 2 weeks. We count the weeks from Sunday of the first week to Friday of the second week (13 nights)

Accommodation

  • Accomodation in a private room with a double You are welcome to bring a partner. The room will not be shared with anyone else.
  • Kitchen, hot water, refrigerator and washing machine. Sheets and towels are provided, as well as basic kitchen items and appliances.
  • Wi Fi available 24 hours a day. 
  • Free street parking is available.

You can hire the services of a printing assistant if necessary. Our facilities are equipped to support techniques such as: Etching with water based ground like BIG (Baldwin Ink Ground). Photo etching with Press-n-Peel Blue. Linocut and its variants (polychrome, lino reduction).  Mokuhanga (woodblock printing with water-basded pigments). Lithography on polyester plate or pronto plate litography (drawing and photographic method). Photolithography with offset plates Lithography on recycled aluminium plates with citric acid (lemon juice). Tetra pack engraving or green engraving. All resident artists have 24 hours access to the studio and work equipment according to their experience. Studio / Workspace We have an intaglio pres with a 50 x 70 cm plate. We offer equipment and materials to develop relief, intaglio and surface printmaking techniques: Printing materials and cleaning supplies (rollers, black graphic ink, intaglio press, varnishes, lacquers, alcohol, salt mordants, developer for offset plates, spatulas, brushes, everyday work tools, drawing, cutting, and gluing supplies, common kitchen oil, rags, detergent, wallpaper base paper for printing, and sulfite and kitchen paper for cleaning). Printing paper and plates are not included. This can be purchased at cost. Fees and support

The fee depends on the type of services you need.
As a reference accommodation for one person, 13 nights is $500.
We offer specialized technical assistance for each proposed technique. This is designed jointly with the resident prior to the start of their stay.

Taller Radal is an autonomous and self-managed space. We do not receive financial aid or subsidies of any kind.

Expectations towards the artist

We encourage resident artists to carry out an exchange with the community through a talk, an exhibition of their production or a small workshop, but it is not mandatory.
